Bring democracy lab to your school
Working with schools across Aotearoa
civics education that actually works
Engaging, non-partisan sessions that prepare students for their first vote.
Democracy Lab delivers a range of sessions designed to make New Zealand’s democracy simple, relevant, and easy to understand.
Each session covers:
How New Zealand’s democracy works
How voting works (including MMP)
How to make informed decisions
How to enrol to vote
What We Offer
Our core sessions are designed for Year 12 and 13 students, supporting first time voters ahead of elections.
We also offer tailored programmes for Years 7 to 11, including interactive experiences such as mock elections and foundational civics learning.
What We Offer
We’re non-partisan, so we don’t promote any political views.
Youth driven and student focussed, designed to be engaging and relevant.
Creating a real difference through action, giving students the ability to enrol during the session.
Most importantly, easy to run. We handle everything.
What Makes Us Different
Many students leave school without understanding how voting works or how to participate in our democracy.
Democracy Lab helps bridge that gap. Through our specialised civics education, our programs build confidence, understanding, and real-world readiness.
Why It Matters
We offer a range of session lengths, from 20 and 30 minutes, to 45 or 60 minutes, whether it be an assembly or a classroom session.
Thanks to our funders, sessions are free of charge, and delivered at your school/kura.
